Underground Railroad ProgramUnderground Railroad Program for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors
The Underground Railroad program will help girls learn about diversity, unity and purpose. They will gain an appreciation for not only themselves, but each other and the world around them, as they learn about the culture and traditions of African tribes, through the experience of slavery and the networks and growth of the Underground Railroad movement. They will discover what it was like during that period, connect with the experiences of women in this era, such as, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and Harriet Beecher Stowe and take action as they use the suggested readings, watch the recommended videos and take advantage of the available places to see and visit incorporated into the curriculum, thereby making the world a better place. The cost of the program is $3 per girl (which covers the cost of the Patch) and the books can be checked out from Fallon Pulley, who can be reached at the Council Office at 216-481-1313, ext. 288 or fpulley@gsneo.org. Upon return of the evaluations, the girls will receive their patches. The troop can purchase the book for $20 from Fallon as well. They must still turn in their evaluations to Fallon with patch request information in order to receive their patches. The program will be available for purchase and check out on June 25, 2007. |
