Leadership Development Pin
Leadership Development Pin and Green Leaves
Volunteers can earn Leadership Development Pins for taking basic leadership
training, completing a year as a troop leader/advisor and by participating in
meetings or events beyond the troop leadership level.
The pin features a brown owl on a yellow background and has a row of tiny
holes from which Green, Silver, or Gold Leaves may be hung. The leaves represent
additional enrichment training taken to increase leadership skills when working
with Girl Scouts.
Basic criteria for earning the Leadership Development Pin are as follows:
- Be a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
- Complete one successful year as a troop leader or
advisor
- Complete 10 hours of leadership training
- Participate in at least two meetings or events beyond
troop leadership, i.e. Service Unit Meeting, Council Program, etc…
- Complete First Aid and CPR training and Troop Camp
Training or have a secured adult with these qualifications from your troop.
After earning a Leadership Development Pin, adult volunteers can earn Green
Leaves to attach to the pin by taking additional enrichment courses. These
enrichment courses are offered by council as training courses and/or workshops,
or can be taken as seminars offered through local adult ed. Programs, colleges
and universities, museums, science centers, etc…Documentation indicating how skills or knowledge learned can be directly
applied to accomplishing the four program goals must be presented to the Adult
Development Unit, Training Coordinator, Jean Seymour. Each Green Leaf represents
10 hours of training. A Silver Leaf replaces five Green Leaf or by accumulating
50 hours of training and a Gold Leaf replaces three Silver Leaves or by
accumulating 150 hours of training.
