New guidelines for earning Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards give girls a
more structured path for accomplishing their goals.
Learning that “anything is possible” is an amazing life lesson. And where
else can girls find the opportunity to be challenged, be supported in
their communities, receive recognition with a prestigious award and
sometimes earn college scholarship money? In Girl Scouts, of course, with
the pursuit of its highest awards: the Girl Scout Silver and Gold!
One of the major findings of the 2001 New Directions research that
launched STUDIO 2B, Girl Scouts of the USA’s approach for girls 11-17, was
that girls are extremely interested in making an impact in their
communities. They are very aware of community issues and feel strongly
about making lasting changes. And the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards
offer, for some girls, the perfect forum for approaching community
projects. Their dilemma, however, rests on: how do I get started and who
will help me?
Descriptions of the steps for earning the Girl
Scout Silver and Gold Awards are available to girls as “inserts” (Go For
It) they can place within their STUDIO 2B Basics binders.
Please plan to attend a
Silver or Gold Award workshop!
