Camper Information

Discovery Days Day Camps offer girls a camp setting where they have fun outdoors and try new things. Campers have opportunities to:

 

  • Learn and practicing outdoor skills and cooking,
 
  • Try outdoor living experiences and explore the woods and water,
 
  • Be a part of ceremonies and Girl Scout traditions
 
  • Learn songs, new games and Leave No Trace ethics
 
  • Make crafts and new friends

Girl Scout values shape the program and campers can increase in self-competence, social skills, respect for others, teamwork, and leadership skills to help them become confident, resourceful and responsible.

 Discovery Days Boating

Discovery Days Day Camps are for Girl Scouts entering grades one (1) through twelve (12) in fall 2008.  Girls can register as individual members to go to camp. These camps will be operated by our summer camp staff and adult volunteers.

 Dates and Times

All camps are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily.              

Do It Yourself Girl

If you like to get in there and help around the house dazzling your family with your extreme skills this camp for you, move over all you do it yourselfers there’s are Girl Scout coming soon.  Every day you’ll try something new.  Girls will have the opportunities to use tools used to make repairs from around the house as well put out a fire.  From changing a broken light bulb to checking the oil in the family car, from fixing a small hole in a sweater to getting just a little more time with that favorite pair of jeans. Girls will get use hammers, pliers and saws maybe even a power tool not and fire extinguisher.  They will learn about the importance of safety while doing basic home repairs.  Can’t forget about our fabulous outdoor activities like exploring Paine Creek, swimming, boating, archery and camp songs.

Girl Survivor

What would you do if you were stranded with out your favorite grown-up, survival skills at there best indoors or out they’re are always things a girl needs to know.  Discover the power of a Daisy Dollar or how to start a fire without using a match; find your way out of the woods or home from the mall; 101 uses for knots, cook in the great outdoors and keep yourself hydrated even if the kitchen is to far away.  Not to mention fun camp activities like songs, boating, creeking, archery, swimming and more.

When:  July 28 – August 1

Medieval Girl Scouts

“Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble.  O! Well done! I command your pains, and every one shall share I’ the gains.  And now about the cauldron sing, like Elves and Fairies in a ring, Enchanting all that you put in.” (Macbeth: Act4 Scene1) You can enchant and experience through the power of discovery as you create your own concoctions and play the games of the day in the Wintergreen Medieval forest.

Program Aides – a leadership opportunity for girls who are age 11 or older, have completed sixth grade and have completed a Program Aide training course.  Girls receive special camp training prior to camp. They can increase their skills as they work with campers. They complete the 25 hours of service needed to earn their Program Aide patch. Program Aides get a staff t-shirt and the patch is awarded at the end of the camp week.  More leadership development opportunities at camp will be provided in the form of Program Aide group work and/or an overnight. 

NOTE: Girls going into seventh grade can choose to be campers or Program Aides.

NOTE: Girls must take a Program Aide training course before they can be Program Aides at day camp.  Courses are scheduled in the GSNEO North Region under course code “pat” April 19 at Camp Lejnar, May 10 at GSNEO North Region Office and June 26 at Camp Hilaka.   Registration is online or by calling the GSNEO North Region Registration Center 216-481-1313 press 5.  

NOTE: Girls who were and have completed their Program Aide Pin and Patch are not required to take a Program Aide training course prior to camp.

NOTE:  Program Aides get their specialized training as part of the Discovery Days Volunteer training Day before camp.

  • All PA's attend the mandatory on-site training, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Confirmation letters contain details.

    • For PA's  assisting with Hilaka Discovery Days Day Camps training will occur at Camp Hilaka Saturday, June 7.

    • For PA's assisting with Lejnar Discovery Days Day Camps training will occur at Camp Lejnar Saturday, June 14.

    • For PA's assisting with Wintergreen Discovery Days Day Camps training will occur at Wintergreen Cabin Saturday July 26.

     

Adult Volunteers staff Discovery Days camps. The number of girls that can go to camp depends on the number of adults who register and agree to volunteer their time at each camp. To make sure your daughter has a place in the 2008 Discovery Days Day Camps register as an Adult volunteer. Parents/guardians please consider volunteering and recruiting friends or family who are adults age 18 or older to help.

All girls must be registered members of GSUSA.  Girls may join for $10 if they are not yet registered. They will be registered as individual, non-troop members  call GSNEO North Region Registration Center for help with membership registration.

2007 Cookie Credit may be used for the Discovery Days fees must receive before March 31, 2008 to be valid.  Be sure to enter amount online in the cookie credit line or on the registration form.

Discovery Days Registration

Registration starts March 12 and ends when a camp is full or by the camp registration deadline. This allows us to plan for the appropriate number of campers we can accept in order to meet girl:adult safety ratios. Please register soon. Registrations for a camp are monitored and may close early if there are not enough volunteers registered to support the number of campers who want to go to camp.

If your camper has a SINGLE buddy request please note it in the on-line registration “notes” section or on the registration form. These requests are not guaranteed, and requests for more than one buddy cannot be considered.  Groups are formed based on grades campers are entering in the fall.

  3. Fax registration form with credit card payment to 216-258-0027.
  4. Mail a registration form: Call 216-481-1313 press 5 or visit www.gslec.org/Discovery Days Home.htm for a Discovery Days registration form and return it completed with payment to Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, 19201 Villaview Road, Cleveland, OH  44119-3074.  Please mark your envelope “Attention: Discovery Days.”

Adult Volunteers: We have boy and preschool Tag-A-Long units for children of adult volunteers.

To get the staff child discount, you must call the GSNEO Registration Center to register yourself and your camper(s).

If not previously appointed as an adult volunteer you must go through the appointment process.

Confirmation: You will receive an email confirming that your registration form and fee have been received. Another email will follow that has a “confirmation packet” as an attachment.  It contains a Girl Health Form, which is a record of health information signed by the parent, and Parental Permission/Hold Harmless Form. If we do not have your email address, a confirmation packet will be mailed to you.
